Default Squeak from Steering Shaft

Have this random squeak when turning the wheel that I have pinpointed to the bottom of the steering shaft right where it starts to go through the firewall under the dash.

Has anybody else ever had this problem? If so, how did you get rid of it?

Thought about maybe taking some grease and lubing but not exactly sure if that would work or where to place the grease.

Any help would be great...

Mine has a bit of a scrape from that area once in a while. I just spritz a bit of silicone lube up there which shuts it up for a couple months. Been too lazy to open it up and see where it comes from, sounds like something plastic.

Where exactly do you put the lube? My noise seems to come from the rubber piece around the steering shaft right at the firewall inside the cabin.

Eh. I didn't realize yours was making noise that low, despite the fact you clearly said where it was. Sorry about that. Mine's doing it where the steering wheel attaches. I wonder if your lower column bearing is having an issue?
ETA: I see that others have lubed up that rubber boot area. See here:

My 98 has that stupid squeal at times. I slide the rubber boot down and put some white teflon grease on the shaft under the boot. It seems to keep it quiet for awhile, but I have had to reapply at least once now when the squeal came back.
