Sputtering and surging
Hey guys I got a 97 cherokee and I've been having problems with it..had a code of p0117 come up as the coolant temp sensor and it was running fine until recently it runs great for the first few mins and then it's like once it got warm it started surging and sputtering really bad and would barely run when u gave it has but when u floored it it seemed to run fine..idle is really rough also..so I went and got a new sensor and put that in and cleared the code and took it for a drive..it always runs great for the first few mins about 5 mins and then all the sudden it starts surging..check engine light didnt come back on but the surging and sputtering still happened..any ideas on what to check or anyone else have anything like this happen? Thanks

Mine had a similar problem
No code, random quirkiness.
I changed out TPS, coolant sensor, and IAC and the pick up thing on the bell housing... no joy.
Someone here suggested the O2 sensor. "Couldn't be that!" I thought, "there is no code set!"
Well, I sprang for the $25 and wish I had listened earlier.
Completely and totally fixed.

Also which sensors did u replace the upstream ones or all of them..from what I can tell on my 97 I'm seeing there are two upstream ones and one or two farther down I know there is one in the cat..I'd have to look when I get home from work..anyone know exactly how many there are?
