So my buddy's 2000 xj idles fine and will rev up fine while sitting in park. But when you put it in gear and try to drive off it falls flat on its face.... I'm at a loss any suggestions guys???

Check the fuel pressure under a load.

Fuel pressure is OK, CEL just flashed on. Two codes, map sensor and can shaft positioning sensor. Going to replace those two sensors and see if that fixes this infernal machine. Thanks for the reply

Before you replace the MAP sensor, make sure the rubber elbow that goes from the sensor to the throttle body is not rotted or disconnected.

Mounted directly to the TB on a 1998.

OP, before you replace anything make sure you've cleaned your grounds. Also the MAP sensor gets gummed up with crap from time to time, make sure it's clean inside.
