I have a 1996 Cherokee Country. I put it into 4 wheel drive today for the first time in a while and whenever I turned it would make this grinding/spinning noise. The noise stopped every time I put it back in 2WD. Has anyone had this problem?

Don't know about spinning/grinding. All I can say is you might want to park it in 4 wd and jack it up. In park turn the front wheel forward and back and have a look. A bad u-joint can make noise turning in 4wd.

Were you driving in in 4wd on pavement? Im assuming you have the command trac t case witch is only supposed to be used on loose surfaces. Driving the np231 on hard surface can cause binding in the t case witch could cause a grinding. Also not fully engaging 4wd might cause a grinding.
