No pics. However I just used a "S" hook an eyebolt and the wingnut from the interior spare tire holder to attach mine to the bar on the roof rack.

Gotta have a roof rack to do it? Or a stock rails will work?

I suppose that if you moved the rails close enough you could support the tire with them. That would deffinatly require a tie down of some type that won't come loose. I forgot to add a bike cable lock to my original post. Can't trust nobody now a days!

I never thought of that. I'm going to head over to lowes and see what I can do.

I like my Surco. It wasn't cheap, but it is aluminum so it lightweight and won't rust. It doesn't have any issues holding my 31' tire and me sitting on it while I wired my lights. Also, it's quite, which is better than what I have heard about some on the market.

Pics are in my profile.

I've used ratchet straps before, but the way I had them attached at first (side to side) they vibrated in the wind like guitar strings and had me searching for the new odd sound for about a week. I ended up going with one from front to back, doubling over/under the spare on the stock rails with a couple loops bolted to the rails to keep it centered. This probably wont work for hardcore wheeling but worked great for the trail running I do.

I'd have to say imo that Timberwolf most likely has the best idea for mounting to the factory rails. I think thats the way I'll go until I get my basket.

An old bed frame, some spare tubing, a piece of expanded metal, some threaded rod and a set of Thule rack feet....

KOR roof top tire carrier... you can get them bare (just the tire carrier) or with mounts for highlift and shovel.

It weighs about 30lbs, and is installed or removed in all of 5 minutes...
I only use it when wheeling(loaded cargo area), the rest of the time the spare lives in the cargo area straped down.

Having it on the roof is fine for the trails, but it is nothing but a big parachute on the highway. I cut a couple pieces of angle steel, drilled a couple of holes, and bolted them to the outer rear bolts of the front seat mounts. Hook a ratchet strap to the brackets on one end and to the rear seat back mounts for the other end.

I have a surco rack with the surco tire adapter. This also allows me to use a lock on it. After 2-3 years the front gutter mounts cracked from the weight, I reinforced them and its all good now.
