Default Soundproofing the engine bay

Hey, Gang.

I just picked up a roll of Dynamat hoodliner to place around the metal "skirt" that isolates the cold air intake from the rest of the engine. It is a one-piece 4' x 5' blanket that's adhesive on one side and has a aluminized foil-type skin on the other. I am hoping the results with be two-fold. 1) knocking down the sucking noise of the intake, and 2) keeping engine heat away of the intake so the air stays as cool as possible.

My question is...
Has anyone else installed this liner (or a similar one) under their Jeep's hood? I know my rig's bonnet is very hot when I get out after a drive. This is the first vehicle I've had that didn't have some sort of insulation pad attach to the underside of the hood. Since the hood sits low & tight to the engine itself, is there any danger to the motor by keeping the heat inside rather than cooking the hood?

it sounds to me like a great mod.... unfortunately I'm not familiar with how well it works.

I'm going to give the rest of the hood a try at the insulation. I will trim to fit the pieces into the 3 wedge-shaped areas between the hood frame/support sections. If nothing else, it will at least enclose the air intake area and knock down that noise. Hopefully my hood won't be hot enough to cook burgers on anymore, either.

i would do some research about what kind of temps that stuff can hold up to. Last thing u want is melted tar gunking up your engine.

Should be okay in that respect, as the liner is sealed in a aluminum foil-type skin that has adhesive on one side to stick to the underside of the hood.

I didn't get a chance to get at it today as I spent my time cleaning the areas behind the front & rear bumpers in preparation for painting with the bed liner gunk. I hope to have all 3 coats on these zones, as well as the backside of both new bumpers before hitting the sack tomorrow.

The cherokee's came with the hood insulation but as you likely know over time it starts coming apart so most just tear it out. You can however purchase the insulation and clips from the dealer..I don't know if sound deadening material would be very wise under the hood..Not sure how fire resistant it is..
