Default Something in the rear moving and thumping when stopping

I have a 2000 Cherokee with 34,000miles. It has a Procomp 4 inch lift with 31 bfg's 8.25 rear.

When coming to a complete stop everything is fine as soon as I let off the brakes its like the rear end moves back a little.

It kinda feels like I am getting axel wrap when stoping then when I release the brake it settles back. And it makes a nice little thump.

I was thinking it was bad leaf spring bushings but I want to make sure be for I throw parts at it.

Has any one ever had this issure? Could it be a bad ujoint (although they seem fine)

Any advice. Thanks

Does your XJ have degree shims on the rear axle between the spring and axle? My "not so good" Rusty's lift came with 4 degree axle shims and I found out the hard way that they were aluminum rather than steel. I broke one while 4wheeling. I had the same exact issue you are describing, when driving on the road after half of my passenger side degree shim broke and fell off.

I had a thump in mine, turned out to be a rear shock.

GTABurnout, here are the pics I promised you.

1.) This is a picture from the back of my driver's side leaf spring with the degree shim in there all nice and neat, like it should be.

2.) This is a picture from the back of my passneger side leaf spring with the back half of the degree shim MIA.

This degree shim being broke just on the one side caused me thumping on braking and accelerating from a stop. It also caused me wheel hop when I never had it before.

If there is no shims then as suggested see if you have lost a shock bushing. That is the most common reason for the thumping.

The rear driveshaft is known to cause a thump when stopping and accelerating. Lube it.

The feeling in the drivers seat is actually some thing moving in the back. Like the axle wraping under the leaf spring or something..

yeah sometimes the cheap shims will snap off and you wont always notice it right away. i got steel ones and theyve been fine. sometimes axle wrap is a funny thing, but also a PITA
