I've had my Cherokee for about a week, its a 1990 with a 2.5 4 banger and a 5 speed. 185k. I've been researching these things constantly to get familiar with them, but almost all the data i read is specific to 4.0s, and more specifically post-Renix era.

Are there any good sources for info on 2.5 Renix engine? I've read pages and pages on here, and am not sure what info and mods pertain to both the 4.0 and 2.5 liter engines. What are the similarities between the two? Are the injector specs the same? I'd like to do an injector swap at some point.

My engine currently runs pretty great, starts quickly and idles consistently. It sometimes has a bit of a stumble on the bottom when accelerating, but not consistently. It also is leaking alot of oil, the vent elbow on the VC leaks and i'm thinking the pcv is plugged because i have oil in the air filter. Clogged pcv would create extra pressure causing exaggerated oil leaks, correct? Also, mileage doesnt quite seem where it should be, but i havent done any exact measurements. I have a K&N cone filter to do a (semi)CAI which will hopefully help. I'm going to go though the engine when i have time to give it a proper tune up.

So, i'm just wanting some Renix 2.5 specific articles, mods, and discussion!

 

Well for one thing the 2.5s aren't renix, just the 4.0s are. If you leave "renix" out of your searches you will find more relevant results. As for the stumbling I can't remember the typical cause for that.

 

Uhh, actually 90 and down they are...simply put they are a renix 4.0 missing two cylinders.
