Solenoid question... Help!
Just found out that 1 of my transmission solenoids is registering at 4000 ohms, where it should be 11!
It will definitely need to be replaced, but my mechanic is suggesting that I should also replace the other two because they are registering 30 to 40 ohms and are around the same age as the first solenoid. Labor is 200 to remove the transfer case and such. Each solenoid costs around 250.
So I could pay 600 to get the really bad solenoid replaced, or 1200 to get all three replaced.
Does anyone here know enough about the nature of solenoids to be able to suggest what my best choice would be? Are chances high that the other two will die soon, or is he just trying to get more out of my wallet? I normally trust this guy..
Thanks

Here's a nice write-up on replacing the solenoids. You'll have to decide whether saving ~$1,000 is worth the trouble.

Excellent! Thank you, F1Addict. I'm going to have the one solenoid replaced and prepare myself to replace the other two down the road. I always try to do these jobs myself but the solenoid was one I hadn't tackled yet. That DIY thread looks killer helpful.
Thanks again man

Yeah, I don't know what that's all about :/ I've not done it, personally, but speaking to those who have, no one ever mentioned pulling the TC and none of the write-ups I've perused suggest it's necessary. I don't see why it would be.
