So I have this clunking sound...
99 xj 163,000 miles. 2wd, 4 automatic, 4 door
Everytime I start the jeep up I have to back up about 5 feet and then pull a sharp left. It makes a clunking sound everyday I do this.
I don't believe my father ever did anything to the suspension (other than shocks and replace calipers pads etc...normal person maintenance).
Every time I pull out of my parking spot at school and turn left it makes a clunking sound also.
After it has made this sound and I drive it around, it does not make the clunk sound again. As long as I don't let the jeep sit for a while it doesn't happen.
The clunking sound is not very loud, but you can hear it pretty good outside. Kind of a cluuunk.
Oh, and If I take off really really slow it won't happen.
Thanks for your help.

Have someone turn the steering wheel from lock to lock while you watch your trac bar mount on the frame end.I'll bet it moves,if it does the bolts are loose, tighten them or replace them with better hardware.
