Default So I guess heater problems are common

but I haven't come across my particular problem.
Hi all, new guy, '96 4L, 4X4 w/a, recently installed, new/rebuilt Jasper engine, (less than 2000mi), 212000+ mi on body.
I've got a heat problem, similar to posts I've already read, but not quite. I get no heat or AC from any of the dashboard vents, but do have some air from the defroster...enough to warm the cab, slightly, on high. A couple of yr's ago I replaced the radio, at Best Buy. Sometime after that I noticed the problem. I can hear the blower work on all 3 settings and the cig lighter doesn't work. Last year I took it in to a shop to have some other repairs done and asked them to look at it. They said a vacuum line had come off. It seemed to have worked, somewhat, for a short time but ceased working. I've always presumed that, when the radio was replaced, they may have messed up something. Then there are the vacuum switches. I've got some back-yard mechanics skill, but really don't know anything about all the vacuum and computer stuff on the more modern cars. I do have a ODBII reader, but nothing is tripped there.
Any thoughts or direction would be appriciated.
Thanks
Ron

If the blower only works on defrost you have a HVAC vacuum leak some where. Defrost is the Default setting...

Thanks for the replies,
Sounds like my problem is a vacuum leak, possibly near the ball on the fender.
