So is cracking an egg or two into a radiator for stop leak.

The results are in:

Cylinder Pressure Test

#1 - 80
#2 - 85
#3 - 55, 0, 30
#4 - 90
#5 - 90
#6 - 90

Ran it three times on #3.

Plugs:

#1 - white with tiny metal particles
#2 - white
#3 - Oil on the threads, blowback?
#4 - white
#5 - white
#6 - white

As for metal in the oil, it wasn't too bad. Little bit more than you accumulate on a good night at the strip club.

The jeep is too pretty to put down. Guess i'm in the market for a new engine.

I think specs for compression on a 4.0 are 120-150 psi, with a max of 30psi between cylinders. Either way yours is shot, a new engine would be a good option. Look on craigslist or car-part.com (searches local junkyards).

My advice would be to pull the one you have and rebuild it from top to bottom, if it is a good core.

I don't trust SY or Craigslist engines to just put in and run. They would possibly be OK if you needed a good core.

I'm leaning toward a remanufactured engine. Best used engine I found is a 99 with 71k for $800 plus 140 for shipping. Not bad except the "what if" factor.

Thinking about pulling the trigger on a Promar reman for $1999.

I'm also considering doing a rebuild myself. My concern is that I'll end up spending just as much money getting it machined et al.

Please feel free to chime in. I'm pulling the trigger tomorrow morning.

If you spend just as much money doing it yourself, you'll know what you have in there.

I don't know that particular company, but I do know that a lot of reman companies do sloppy work.

Nice Jeep. I would look into ATK if you decide on a Reman. You can actually order them through your local Autozone. Sold as "Surefire" engines. ATK seems to have a decent reputation as far as Remans go and the price is right.

If you have the tools and ability then DIY, buying a used engine is a crap shoot, peeps just pull mileage numbers out of the air. Even if a warranty is offered you still have to yank it out & return/exchange it then find something else.

"Surefire"? Through AUTOZONE?

Bwahahahahahahaha!

Like their "Duralast" (Neverlast)?

And Walmart's "Everstart" (Neverstart)?

Sounds like a "Surefire" waste of money and time to me.

Agreed. I cringed reading autozone engine... the their water pump is what got me here in the first place.

35k ago I got what I thought was a steal. Fresh paint, no rust and the PO couldn't speak english. So after a few months I talked him down well below KBB.

After the water pump fail, I'm looking for the source of the white smoke and I notice a non-OEM weld on the exhaust manifold. Clearly it's been off before. Jorge only knows what else is welded under there.

I take it someone doesn't like autozone. Can't blame you there but
regardless what they call it, its still an ATK engine. Same company that is building 4.7 strokers for Mopar.

If I remember, yours is a MY 99. In your original post you said you filled the "bottle" with coolant. Just wanted to clarify that you will never get enough coolant in the radiator through the overflow bottle.

When it comes to water pumps I will only buy either OEM or Gates, for any vehicle. If it's offered Aisin is another good one. But I won't touch anything from a parts store, or any GMB, Dayco, AC Delco, Airtex, etc. On Rockauto.com, they offer a Mopar pump for $44.79 + shipping.
