This has happened to a few jeep Cherokee xj's in my area they smash the rear window and steal the spare tire out of the trunk.... What I want to know is how can I lock up my spare with it being mounted in the stock location in the trunk any help with this would be great... Anyone have any ideas?? Thank you

Take a high grade chain.. Wrap it through the tire and around the stock mount and then pad lock it. Cant take the tire unless they can get the stock mount off also. But instead of making it look ghetto and like **** id just get an alarm system. Companys by me that sell em from 75 to 100 bucks installed.

So go to jeep chrystler dodge and see if its possible for them to hook up a factory alarm thats warrantied by them. And i look at it as if its inly about 100 bucks for an aftermarket alarm nd it lasts a few years then ur deff getting your money out of it. And besides it will save u money in the long run so u wont have to replace spare tires all the time.

thats true... you have a point.... the factory alarm is longer offered from the dealer i know that... but i do not want to have to replace the spare... i will check out alarms and drill a rod as well...

There all options to look into. The rod will help for now but most likely isnt a long term problem solver. I live in NY lol so if they want it then there gonna steal it no matter what it takes. Theifs dont care. They will go to any extreme to get what they want.

Ive gotten plenty stolen. Carbon fiber hoods. Rims. Sound system. Now i just add all my extras to my insurance policy so its cover lol. And i installed cameras. Now all my cars have viper alarms on it so if you come within5 feet of it, it starts to beep. When u walk away it stops. Its got motion detection. Cost 300 bones but i love it.

Alarms work ------ sometimes. In Atlanta, thieves would set off vehicle
alarms time after time night after night til the owner would just not set it.
Next time they came around and it didn't go off, they'd break into it.
Maybe it's just a "Southern Thing".

Sounds like you'll still be replacing the glass, if they're breaking it to get in.

I like the chain idea, but make it visible. The extra work to get to the tire may not be worth the trouble, and that may save the window.
