If you pull the starter, you might be able to see the bolts. There has to be a way to get to them.

Yep...thank you Should be able to reach in through the starter hole after pulling the starter to check them. Carefully use a screw driver to turn it to the next nut by prying on the ring gear teeth. Keep an eye out as you turn the flexplate to also make sure there are no cracks. Use the screwdriver to hold it from turning while tightening the nuts.

After you have checked the torque convertor nuts and know they are tight for sure, try to pry on the whole assembly to see if there is any wiggle up in there where the flexplate bolts to the back of the crankshaft. You won't be able to see it but should be able feel the slack if it is loose.

I ran out of daylight and patience for that time. I'm going to try again Thursday. I may just have to separate the tranny from the motor and slide them apart and while I do that, I may go ahead and check the bearings and oil pump, along with the bolts in the flexplate and torque converter. Might as well with it split, right? I figured, if that's the problem, it'd be a inexpensive and somewhat easy fix........hopefully.

I would make sure this is the area where the knock is coming from before going to all the work of splitting it. A simple but effective stethoscope can be made from a couple feet of hose with a bolt shoved in the end of it.
