So I got an 88 cherokee laredo 4.0 renix a few months ago and have done a little work on it, but it just seems like the engine bay has too many wires/hoses going everywhere. I would like to free up some more room in the engine bay and wondering if theres anything I don't need or can take out. Do I really need the EGR valve? I just want to have less things to go wrong and free up some space. Any suggestions are appreciated

Techincally yes you can remove the EGR valve and block off the vacuum hoses going to it. But it isnt advised since that is messing with federal emissions equipment. If your state has a visual inspection it wont pass if they know what they are looking for. You can remove your AC compressor if you dont use the AC, in which case Id suggest relocating your alt to the ac bracket.

You could take off the washer fluid system... Most of the other vacuum lines are pretty necessary. You could replace the CCV hose from the air box with a little breather hose and a mini-cone filter...

i did some clean up on my renix. got rid of the horrible vac harness by the air box. removed the warm up vacuum lines and egr lines (since i capped the hard line from the ex. manifold to the int. manifold), plugged what was left, looks way better. all that is left is vac for fpr and ccv, runs like a champ. next up on the chopping block is the entire cruise control system, ac system, and cad vacuum harness...theres actually a lot that can be done...how far do you want to go?

i dont know about write ups... the warm up line is the one that runs from the front of the air box, its easy to see. i just basically got rid of stuff i know i dont need. it was kinda fun actually.
