Default Simple engine question

I need an engine for my 2000 xj. I found one in a 2000tj. Will it work without any mods, or changing anything? (4.0)

thanks

it should, just swap over all your XJ brackets and manifolds, wireing harness, electrical stuffs. Thats what i did, I used a 98 TJ motor for my 97 XJ. Only difference was the TJ was mated to a manual trans and my XJ is an automatic. All i had to do is remove the spacer/pilot bearing from the back of the crank shaft and that was it.

Make sure you get the computer. The wiring harness might be different...get it too. Pay attention to the transmission wiring connection, if one.

If you strip it all down to the block, and swap over ALL your XJ stuff onto the TJ motor you wont need the computer. You will be using your original XJ wiring harness.

You shouldnt need the computer, but grab it just in case, ya never know.

On my XJ, there was just one big wiring harness that controlled all of the engine functions, that plugged into one of the 3 spots in the ECU.

I dont know if a TJ computer will work for a XJ, it might be programed differently. Thus may make your cherokee act funny. I dont know for sure tho
