Default Signal From Crankshaft Position Sensor

Hi I'm doing some messing around and was wondering if anyone can measure a signal from the CPS while cranking (not running) on an analog meter. I believe it should be a small AC fluctuating voltage? I have an '87 Renix system, so it's not a Hall effect sensor. I know that much. Just trying to figure out how to tell if it's sending a signal I can pick up. (and I know I can check ohms to figure if the sensor is good or not, but that's not what I'm looking at).
