Default Should My steering box move?

When I turn my wheel My steering box moves and pops or clunks. What Causes that? Do I just replace it?

Something's busted. Check bolts and anchor points. Look for cracks and/or rot at mounting points.

Check the 3 bolts that hold it to the unibody rail. They could be loose or broken.
What I would also do is remove the box and check the rail for cracks. Also the aluminum bracket inbetween the box and the rail could have broke.

Very well put.

If the unibody there is cracked there are kits sold to repair it. There was a thread about them in the past week or so.

Usually the spacer between the actual box and the frame cracks and breaks apart...if you are lucky it is just that. Rusty's sells an upgraded spacer...or at least I think its Rusty's. Either way, it shouldn't move, be careful removing those bolts tho because you don't want them to snap off the heads...it's a PIA to remedy once they are broken...ask me how I know. I just upgraded the hole darn thing instead of messing around with the old tired one. PM me if you have any other questions cause I have become a subject matter expert after the fiasco I went through....god speed.

Careful removing the mounting bolts, if you break them also be careful about using heat to get the remains out. That bracket is made of aluminum and will most likely warp... Like mine did. The replacement bracket from the stealership was more expensive than my new steering gear box itself. Just a heads up!

Turns out the.mounting.bolts.were loose. Im thinking probably the sandwich plate is toast in there. Or the 2-3 miles of spirited driving on some wash boards rattled them loose.
