Default should i buy this used head?

my 2000 cherokee had a cracked head and i finally found a replacement with a decent price tag. it came off a 04 grand cherokee and the place cleans them than checks them with florescent lighting and it has a 100 day guarantee only thing is it came off a motor that threw a rod. i just wanna know if i would be wasting my time they only want $175 for it so thats why i am trying to jump on it so quickly

IIRC Jeep/Chrysler fixed the weakness in the cylinder head design around 03; so if the head looks good and it's guarenteed for 100 days - I'd buy it, and take it to a machine shop to get it checked out. Check for cracks, or warped. If it's bad, take it back. If it's good, you've got a good head and you've only invested maybe $225-$275.

(I have never taken a head in to get checked, but I believe it's fairly cheap.)

check the casting number the side of the head.
0331 castings are the defective ones.
they're one 99-01 models.

I've heard of occasional late production 99's ending up with 0331's

same here, had a few in the shop over the last couple months. But as far as the OP's question, have the head checked for warp, cracks and valve seat.......and if all is good...then you did well
