What I'm getting at, is a shock is a shock. I would rather bend/break a cheap shock, than an expensive one.

My rig is a daily driver, probably 70/30 DD/Trail. It won't be a severe duty rig when it is off road either. I just want a capable rig that the family can use to go camping and fishing (wherever we want), without having to worry about getting stuck or ground clearance issues.

i was meaning i would do a biodiesel conversion and not have to worry about gas prices then haha. i think my next car will be a converted diesel, after college. till then i got the XJ but ill keep it after i get a new car.

IMO monotubes would be your best bet, ive never heard of anyone destroying them but i suppose its possible but id go with the Monotubes.

Okay this thread is about SHOCKS, not desiel. Anymore opions on shocks?

I was looking at these. http://www.bds-suspension.com/produc...s_5500.php#spi

they make a 6.5" one which seems like it would be perfect.

Great shocks and not too expensive either. The 9500s I have were bought used from a j/y but they were practically brand new and I paid around $100 for the set. First set that I put on my daughters Jeep were about $200 for 4 but that was about 3-4 years ago.

A lot of wrangler folk ride those and from what I hear they run very nicely. I would go ahead and give them a try.

BDS are great shocks for the money. I had a set (can't remember which series) on a TJ and they rode great. You wouldn't be disappointed.

Monotube. It had a slight bend in it from the previous trip b/c of a trackbar failure, but this trip finished it out.

The real question is what was the cause of failure? A picture can be very misleading.

With the slight bend in it, it wouldn't compress all the way. Throughout the weekend it kept bending more and more, until it wouldn't compress at all.

All 3 of the others have broken seals and are leaking.

Don't get me wrong though, they are a great shock. If it was more of a DD, I would definately buy them again.

I wasn't trying to be rude, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It just gets at me when threads get lead in the wrong direction.

That being said.......

The BDS shocks look like what i'm looking for. Where can you buy them online? I've only found the BDS website and some for a 4.5" TJ lift. Are the ones for the TJ's the same?

No TJ shocks are mounted differently, I know BDS has XJ shocks I would just give them a call and order direct.

Looks like you're going with BDS, but FWIW I have RE monotubes on a DD. Probably 90/10 DD/trail, sadly. But they ride just fine. A LOT softer than my buddy's Pro Comps.

Now that I have been running on the Rough Country shocks now for about a month I dont really see a difference in stock. Not Rough like people say maybe i got a good set I am not sure but they seem to ride fine on a 3 in lift.

In the progress of doing my tan waggie now.

Gonna put RC shocks on Tess's waggie too? I ask because there seems to be several opinions that point in a different direction.
