Shock absorbers problems

Pull the shocks off and go drive over the same pot holes. That will tell you if it's the shocks or if it's the springs.

A lot of people like Skyjacker, but all of the "so called" good shocks are not. I had put EBCs on my '97 and they didn't hold up at all. They are supposed to be good shocks. I'm putting Monroe Severe Duty ones on my '98 now. They are the ones specified for the police package XJs.
...but I'm trying to decide on new rear shocks for my '96 (to go with the new leaf packs that arrived yesterday) and the Monroes 550017's are the top of my budget list, and I'd like to know if you got these, and how they're working for you.
The spec's say they're only 2-3/8's inch travel is the bit that worried me: can you confirm the travel? Has this been an issue? Off-road? What about on-road comfort?
