Shifting

Hi.

At what speed can I shift from (D) to (3) when I want to climb a hill?

Others may disagree or have more info, but I shift my 96 XJ (automatic) down at highway speeds of 50-55mph or so without any problems.

Sure can. Some will say it's best to come to a stop and downshift, but I've never had a problem with it.

Are you talking about offroad hill climbing? Or climbing a hill on the road?If your talking about on the road then you can do it at just about any speed.If you think about it,your tranny shifts to 3 or 2 or 1 when you hit the gas to pass.If your talking about offroad hill climbing then I use 4lo and if it's too steep I put it in drive 1 also.
