Shifter Cable Bushing pops off

Shifter Cable Bushing pops off
1989 Auto 4.0
My shifter cable keeps popping off the selector lever down on the side of the trans. All I have to do is pop it back on, but it doesn't snap on anymore, and I have to crawl under to pop it back on.
When I pop it on, and drive somewhere, so far I have been able to put it into park. then when I start it up and shift out of Park it pops off. I crawl under, push it on, and it works. Repeat, repeat.
Wouldn't be such a big deal, but it is my DD, so I have to figure out something quick.
Is there a way to secure it on better without buying a new cable?
