I was just recently handed down a Jeep Cherokee 1999 Sport, and we live on a hill, so I often put the car into Neutral while going down to save gas. Now the other day I got lazy and was changing the song on my ipod, and decided to shift into N with my left hand... I Miscalculated the force i put on the shift **** and went over into Reverse>>. The cars engine came to a hault and I had to slam my foot down on the brake and put it into park to start it up.

Unfortunately this has happened 2 times at a speed of about 15-30mph.
I know that it cannot be smart for this to occur, so whats most likely happeing? I hope i havent permanantly damaged the Cars Transition.

Also the check engine light went on recently when I blew a fuse under the hood.I replaced the fuse and the light was still on, so I took the (+) side of the battery off for about 30 mins and its gone now. Im sure that was all that was wrong.

Nice story is there a question? Transmissions have a safety which actually has a foolproof built in to keep damage being done when slammed into reverse at any speed. The design is pretty much universal.
BTW you should have been able to re-start the engine in neutral as well as park.

ive accidentally hit mine into reverse goin about 35, and havent a problem with it yet
