just got a 91 xj 4.0. it tskes a sec to crank while im pumpin the gas and wont idle for 5 min. and its 95 degrees out side. also has a small miss...new plugs ans wires it looks like too. i was thinkin maybe the timing was off?? any ideas?

 

Timing isn't adjustable on the 4.0. Unless the chain snapped or someone took it apart before (although the chain snapping is rare as far as I know), that should be ok. Is fuel pressure good? Check and clean the IAC and TPS and maybe the MAP sensor. This really seems like a sensor issue to me.
