Default "severe duty head gasket"

Is it worth the extra $$$ to get the severe duty gasket?

It couldn't hurt. If you're gonna go through all that trouble you might as well get the best stuff you can. That's my philosophy anyway.

I asked this guy at work who has rebuilt engines and got 480hp out of a 306. He said it just helps it seal better and is worth the extra $12 bucks

Intakes are usually fine as they run much cooler than the exhaust. How many miles on the engine. The exhaust valve are probably pitted.... If they aren't too bad and the guides feel ok you can probably just lap them in.

I have no clue my old head was a cracked 0331 this one is a 0331 off a 04 grand Cherokee. No clue how many miles were on it. If I took it to a machine shop they will be able to tell me if there bad?

Should be able to. They would have an inspection charge probably. They can check the casting for cracks and check the guides and how bad the exhaust valves and the seats are.

An auto machine shop should be able to check the valves for you and regrind them fairly cheap if they need it. I had my head ported, decked, magnafluxed, and had a three angle valve job done for a little over $300. He reground my valves and they looked brand new.
