serpentine belt rubbing
hey whats up y'all...looking for some advice/help. I have a terrible sound coming from the serpentine belt, and upon close inspection it looks like the belt is being scorn on the engine side. when idling the engine it looks like its slipping from the fan pulley, so i moved it to realign tightened down the belt and again just seems to walk itself off and continue rubbing on the front of the engine. There is a lip on the one side of the pulley but smooth on the other. Also seems like there is alot of movement coming from the waterpump pulley, perhaps its warped, and causing the belt to move. any thoughts on how to fix this or what the problem could be??? thanks for the input!

Just guessing on what year, mileage and engine you have, but it sounds like the harmonic balancer pulley needs to be replaced.
If you look down at the harmonic balancer pulley, you might notice that the outer ring has shifted backwards towards the engine. That causes the belt to shift backwards and sometimes gets shaved narrower.
If you wait TOO long, you get to replace the "front cover/timing cover". This is a chore.
Heres mine.. Had to locate a replacement.
