Default sensor problem?

hi, i have a 99 cherokee classic with the 4.0 1-6

when ever i get my jeep just a little muddy underneath it starts to run like ****...it runs like its not getting gas and has noo power until i rev it up for a while then it stops and takes off and is fine. also it idles and runs fine normaly but when i let it idle for more than a half hour it will start to run like that also. what do you think could be happening?
