Default Seat belt question I hate to ask

Did tons of searching with no diffinitive answer. My 96 has no rear seat belts and was wondering if 97+ rears fit the 96. My guess is yes, but not sure and don't want to pull a pair from jy if they dont.

I believe they will if you pull a complete set from a donor and install/bolt them into your 96.

The bolts that hold them in are #50 torx ....they will not come out easy. You will need a 1/2 drive socket with some 1/2 to 3/8 adapters and a handful of bits. Are the bolts still in yours or are there holes where they were. Surprisingly the threadcount on those are 7/16 fine thread...so if needed you can use full thread regular bolthead bolts about 1-1 1/2 long.. Bring some penetrant oil

Thanks for the info on the bolts. I have all bolts except the rear top bolts by the headliner and I picked those up at the JY. They came out fairly easy at least. My luck at the JY is not great when it comes to XJ's though. Arrived yesterday when they opened (62 miles away) because they had 3 new XJ's arrive. I found a few misc parts I could use, but the seat belts were either missing, the wrong color, or worse than mine. I'm not in a hurry for the rears, but since my interior is completly out now is the time to get those missing and worn out pieces. Might spring for new or refurbished front ones, but the prices are much higher than I thought. It might come to that though and they are a critical safety item so price shouldn't be a criteria.

You are using stock bolts so good, but for those who don't, use a high grade bolt. In a wreck a grade 5 bolt would just be there for decoration.

Also, I would recommend that you don't get any penetrating oil on the belt webbing.
