Our 4.0s don't need or like 91 octane gas. 87 is best for our low compression engines.

And it cures cancer, arthritis, makes plants grow bigger, seals the roof on your house, and best of all - it makes women's clothes fall off!

don't forget it will also enlarge your ***** 4-6"...
actually its not "snake oil" ive used it many many times to clean an engine before a teardown/rebuild, and the engine looks brand new when torn down. i love the stuff.

I actually liked the 3M fuel system cleaner, though I wrecked a perfectly good used toothbrush cleaning the throttle body. By the time you buy multiple cans of seafoam, there isn't much of a price difference (though seafoam is still the the only fuel system cleaner I'll buy from the gas station). There is a video here, it was easy to use.

What is your deal? You're trolling another thread with this too. It's a solvent used for...

I was thinking of picking up some Seafoam and using it tomorrow. I was going to fill up my tank and put some in there, and then add some to my oil, and then do an oil change next weekend or so, since the guide said about 200 miles. Do I need to know anything besides the info from that guide posted on the other page? Is Seafoam the best product for this? I just want to clean as much gunk out of my engine, since I don't know how the previous owners handled it.

Willsmysticcobra and myself just used this today. It seems to make an noticeable improvement. It could certainly be a placebo effect, but I believe it was a good $10 investment.

Just be prepared for tons of smoke and an obnoxious odor after doing the vacuum method.

Is the vacuum method recommended? What exactly would it be cleaning out? I'm iffy on the oil, but would like to add it to my gas tank for sure. I've read that people seem to notice an improvement, so I'm sure it does something.

Thanks!

The long instructions posted are correct. Land Rover owners also highly reccommend the procedure however the only exception is once a year. Doing so every 10K miles is not necessary. If you have that kind of build up in 10K miles, there are other issues.

awesome write up!! I've used the stuff a few times although i didn't use the vacuum method... when mixing the seafoam in the gas tank i would pour in the bottle then fill up my gas tank. Literally right there at the pump dump in the bottle then fill it up. I think mixes it up better..... The Sea foam spray(throttle body cleaner) Works great too.

You can achieve the same result as seafoam in your crankcase with using atf. It just lowers the viscocity and thins the **** out of the oil.

Is it true that it's not good to use Seafoam on a high mileage engine that's not used to it? I don't know what the previous owners used, but I'd like to run it through my gas at least. I'm running pretty fine IMO, I just want to clean up any excess. I don't want to put it in my oil, since I don't have the time to change it until next weekend. If I put it in my vacuum line, do I have to worry about hydrolocking?

If you just dump it in there...yeah.. Just pour it slow and steady and watch as it gets sucked into vapor pretty much until like a third to a half of a can is gone depending on how neglected your engine is.

I don't *think* there's as much risk with the intake method (eg. vacuum line) as with the crankcase. The major concern with a high mileage engine is the same with any cleaner - you don't want to knock loose some crud and having it block an oil passage. If I were to Seafoam or ATF or w/e a higher mileage engine I'd start off with a very small amount and gradually work it to a greater concentration in the oil over a period of time to limit the risk of blowing some serious crap loose and causing problems.
