Screech after Engine Swap
Just joined although I have used this forum for research on my new purchase. I got a 1996 Cherokee Sport for $500 knowing that the body was solid and that it didn't run.
After getting it to the garage I discovered that it had a blown head gasket and with 277k on the clock I got a replacement motor from a junk yard. I got it installed and it fires right up.
The issue is that just as it gets up to speed there is a loud screeching noise from the bellhousing and a puff of white smoke.
I'm thinking that it is the flexplate hitting the bellhousing or the flexplate cover. Less inclined to suspect the torque converter. I will be separating the tranny and reinstalling again in two weeks to see if something was misaligned.
Opinions? Youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huWif...ature=youtu.be

Problem solved.
Pulled tranny back and swapped out flywheel anddust shield. The JY set was bent up a bit and were contacting each other. The Jeep runs like a champ.
Pulled out the seats and carpet for a good powerwashing and will have her registered and ready to roll soon.
