i am about to start constructing a safari rack for my xj and im having a slight problem with a way to mount it on the gutters. does anyone know how to make the mounting hardware or know where i can get them for a decent price or even know of a web site that has blueprints? thanx for your help.

 

I bought a used confer rack a few years back and came with universal "hinge" style mounting brackets.

They looked like a door hinge and I used sheet metal screws and screwed it right to the main rack rails on both sides of the roof. There were three per side and worked great and the rack was nice and tight even with a 32inch tire on top.

I think confer got bought out but there should be similar styles out there. As far a gutter mounts, dunno. Internet search should come up with something.

You can always use a roof top bike rack mount from Thule, Yakima, etc. Thats what I have on mine.
