I can tell you what you will need as far as parts, and tools. How many leaves besides the main one I dont know. You will need for parts new center bolts ,and spring pack clamps New u-bolts (never reuse u-bolts they stretch). For tools a couple of 6 inch C-clamps 4.5 inch grinder with zip wheels (cut-off).Wrenches,jacks,jack stand's. Torqe Wrench and the right torqe for U-bolts.

Exactly, depends on the condition of both sets of springs as well.
My XJ had/has the UpCountry suspension package so the rear sat an inch over normal ride height anyways. Couldnt tell you the condition of the s10 leafs, they came from the recycle yard. You just have to mix and match till you find the combo that works for you. I tried it three different ways before I found the ride height I wanted.

Varies depending on how many of the leaves and which ones you use.
As I said in my PM, I used all of them, overloads included and got about 4.5".
Top spring is bastard packed, while bottom is stock XJ.

NOTE - I made them at work, then re-used the old bracket and some c-clamps to make sure they didnt come apart in my trunk on the ride home. I got some 1" steel and bent new brackets for them before installing.

So I am trying to understand this completly. When you guys say 2nd or 3rd leaf do you mean the 2nd or 3rd leaf if you start counting from the leaf on the very top of the leaf pack, also called the main leaf, right? Also when you get the right combo down, I would guess that you would just put the center bolt back in to place and install the spring pack clamps and then your done right?

So how would a bastard pack ride as compared to an off the shelf spring pack, lets say for a set of springs to lift the Jeep 3 inches? I would imagine it just might be comparable, or do the bastard packs ride like a pogo stick, generally speaking?
45shutr x2,
That was my question also I would love to get about 3 inches more lift in the rear with the S10 pacs but my XJ with the 8 ply LT tires runs pretty rough rite now.
Can anyone who has done this mod please post if they notice a big ride difference; rougher, smoother, same?
Thanks a lot in advance

I got 3.5" from XJ main, s10 main, s10 2nd, 3rd and overload. I also used JK shocks which are alittle too stiff for the XJ but I think the bastard pack rides great. Before i put the shocks on and could cycle the rear suspension pretty easily to see where i needed to add bump stops.
The best part is if you dont like the ride, you can buy off the new springs and only be out like $50 for the bastard pack, which i'm sure someone would buy for their budget heap.
