Hi,

I just bought a 98 Cherokee 2.5 Petrol and only noticed now that there is rust inside the car, on the fixation holding the front driver seat (see picture). Does that mean that the rust has traveled all the way from the outside and "eaten" the all body through to arrive inside? Or could it be (hopefully) rust that started from the inside (living in Iceland the cars here are almost always wet/damp).

It's probably just rust on the inside. My Jeep has to be the worst car I ever had in terms of rust. It's everywhere.

 

X2, my 88 xj has the same thing going on. Almost zero rust but the bolts attaching the seats are rusty as heck. The thing is that, in the winter you get into your car with snow on your shoes, it melts and you can guess what happens to exposed metal. The same thing happens in summer when it rains. Water+metal=rust
