ive lost an xj due to rust, just one day my passenger seat fell about 5" through the floor, pulled the carpet and it was long gone.

my last xj took me months to find. NOT A SPEC OF RUST the thing was a freak of nature. just to prevent the inevitable i lightly sanded the floorboards and sprayed generous coats of undercoating on it.

then i dragged it over rocks for 2 years, the only rust on it is where the unibody cracked and just surface rust, no rot.

my current jeep was too nice to pass on. but the floor was in rough shape, a couple holes, lots of soft stuff (poke your finger through kinda soft), welded it up and one of these warmer days im pulling the crossmember and exhaust and spraying it down.

they are out there, but there is one thing i learned when searching for a rust free vehicle...

If they say it's rust free, it usually rotted away.

Some guy told me there was no rust on his MINT 95 cherokee 250 miles north of me, the price was right so i dorve up there. a-hole says "OH YEA it needs floors and rocker panels"

Then i saw a "rust free" comanche.

pervious owner thought it was a genius idea to cover the rot with duct tape and paint the duct tape. carpet was dragging on the pavement. i just walked away from that one.

Either you're going to have to be a little less picky...or buy a brand new vehicle. Rust does take a little work to get rid of, but if you live in an area where roads get salted....Good luck on finding a rust-free vehicle. Or you could have a broker find you a vehicle in a warmer part of the country like Arizona or something like that...
