I noticed driving today that my temp gauge went to 220-225 twice on my way to work..it was close to 90 degrees here in WV..I know that the impellers on the water pump are probably worn out so I'll be changing it out tomorrow night...my question is..will I be better off running a cooler thermostat than stock...if so what temp should I get 180?...thanks for the input in advance!!

I would advice against a lower thermostat(only from MY experience) I tried a 160 and 180 in both of my jeeps. One being a 1994 and the other a 1999 and they both ran hotter than the stock. The quicker the coolant runs through the less it has a chance to dissipate heat. So all you would be doing is cycling hotter coolant through faster.

You're best off running a stock thermostat, in my opinion. Vehicles are designed to run at a certain temperature, and sometimes running a colder thermostat can benefit the vehicle, but I don't think that's the case in Cherokees. I vaguely remember another thread about this, but I can't remember exactly what was said. I'm going to look for it and link it for you if I can find it.

The modification of the electric fan is a good one - to put that on a toggle switch instead of it kicking on when the temp raises. I plan to do that soon. And, you're welcome.
