anyone got pics of this thing installed? Its been so long since I've seen one, I forget how it clears the steering. Would like to fab something up, Advance Auto seems to be tightening down on the replacement alternator policy. This shield definitly helps if you get into a little mud or water, I've gone thru a few alternators lately.

Never could understand why Jeep put the alt. down low. Would rather my AC comp/alt switch places.

I helped mine finish ripping off a few months ago, but I do recall that there was a notch cut on the driver's side of the mat through which either the pitman arm or that part of the drag link came through. Everything else steering-wise was below.

Have washed my alt a few times with no regrets. I am looking forward to this mat not trapping heat in the engine bay or holding salty slush against the oil pan - it certainly is worse for the wear.

Try here:

I have bought a few things from this site. Seeing how there is never any pictures made me nervous but the 3 things I have purchased have been exactly what I wanted.

It is a different shield for 1993 (part #:52003570) and earlier xj's, (I'm told) You referenced the correct shield for 1994-2001 (part #: 55174736). no one has pictures, so I can't see what the difference is.

The last time I checked , it was around $81 from the dealer. I use zip ties on mine.

Sorry. Mine is an '00 and I probably should have looked at your profile before I responded.

Edit: Felt bad for giving you the wrong info. So decided to see what I could do. First found a picture of mine. Any chance you have yours still to compare? Also went into my '91 to '93 Jeep parts catalog. Something weird. The number you gave is listed for '91 and '92. '93 seems to have a another number but is also the same one for a '93 RHD. Not sure what that is all about. If you click on the parts catalog shot it will become easier to read.

I made one for my 01 from a carpet mat. It wasn't fullsize but covered the alternator and a few other big parts. I used zip ties to hold it in place.

Jim Fillmore here, Detroit Muscle Technologies, I just purchased an NOS JEEP 52003570 lower / alternator splash shield off the German Ebay site. Whew. Took me a couple years to locate this. I make the one for 94-01. It'll be nice to round out my offerings and have the 87-93 one. This one looks like a bit more work to make. Looks like a couple grommets were added on 2 of the mounting holes. Also looks like a small "pad" of some sort (guessing about 3" square) is also riveted on. Maybe some sort of abrasion or heat shield. I should have the shield in a month the tracking shows. I'll have one made up in a couple weeks after that. Here are some pictures of the NOS one.

Did you ever find a video or something on how to install this? I've been having trouble putting it on with all the steering parts in the way
