When swapping my pump out, I noticed that there was a bare metal end on the return pipe in the sender unit ('95 cherokee). In looking at 'replacement parts' pics, I noticed that most had a rubber cap on the end...

Do I need one? Can something substitute?

I'm assuming that mine fell off somewhere down the line and is sitting in the tank....

I subscribed to this thread to see what anyone else had to say. Same thing happened to rubber cap on mine...I just left it go, I works fine. I dunno?

 

Didn't think it would cause an issue. I thought about putting a piece of fuel hose on it, but it looks like it would push against the bottom of the tank (and interfere with the fit of the sender unit) if I made it any longer than the metal pipe itself.
