I had a problem that was exactly as you described. One night my battery died. I had to get a jump start. When I did, there were a couple of people looking under the hood as it started. They said it looked like an electric light show with sparks jumping between all of the plug wires. I replaced the wires and the Cherokee ran perfectly and has since. BTW the old wires looked completely fine.
