rough idle on stops??

hey guys hopefully you guys can shed some light on the problem my jeep just started having. it drives fine normal rpms when driving, but it just recently starting idling really rough when im at a stop sign and im steppin on the brake. the needle bouncec like crazy under 1000 and down rpms. it also feels like its gonna die. but other than that there isnt any other problems
in the next week or so im planning on replacing the motor mounts, and the transmission mount.
is there other things i should look at or change?

I would check/ replace the TPS. is your check engine light on?? I would also, if you have the ability to, plug it into the code reader even if you dont have an engine light on and see if there is any trouble codes stored in the computer.
x2 on code reader. i recently discovered the fact that codes can store in there but not trip the CEL...

ok thanks guys..yea i checked the IAC..i think thats what its called..its on the throttle body, well that was pretty darn dirty..and no the check engine light is not on..so hopefully its not much. but i do have class tonight ill see if my auto teacher will let me use the coad reader to see if it throws any out there. but ill deff check what you guys have told me..thanks ill let you know how it goes.

soooo...i just remembered something..since its a 87...theres no connection fo the coad reader is there?? ive read about the "on/off" method..so what method would work for a 87??

I cleaned my IAC and it idles better. It did have a bit of carbon on it that I used sea foam and also a razor blade to lightly scrap off the carbon. Didn't look like new when done but, it did make a difference. I also used Q-tips and sea foam to clean out the port that the IAC goes into. That part actually took the longest. I'm sure it would have been easier to do if I would have removed the throttle body but, I got it done in about an hour.
