Mine was 10x worse then that I would get under a start poking around on the unibody rails. If it's complete rot then you have a prob...otherwise an afternoon of patching and your good. I had to change out my whole rocker..but my frame rails are good...

Get a mig welder..owning and xj will sharpen your welding skills asap

idk about that frame rust, the thing about rust is, it isn't what you see, it's what you can't see. The rust on that rear frame rail is probably spread through out the entire frame and is rusting from the inside out. You might want to check on that. That jeep might just be toast.

Best way to find out is to grab a grinder and find out how far it goes...

If you have the skills/knowhow to do the work yourself, it's just a matter of how much work you want to do. If you'll be paying a shop to do it, then no.

Engine/trans, 2WD or 4x4?

If its a 4.0L 4x4, worst case you got a great donor vehicle. Clean 2WD XJs can be scored for peanuts, and with a complete donor, the conversion is far less work than repairing severe rust damage.
