roofing tar undercoat
I live in Maine the heart of the rust belt. I was thinking about painting all non moving parts frame and body with roofing tar then driving it down a few dry dusty back roads to add some grit. Has anyone tried this. All thoughts and opinions will be helpful

the roofing tar is a mess to work with. but x2 on the bedliner, or just get real truck undercoater and go to town with it.

roofing tar is horrible stuff, and will wash off in the puddles on a wet trail.
very bad for the environment. even worse than oil leaks.
get the right stuff. and fix any leaks while you're under there.

In Mexico they undercoat cars with used motor oil and tar. $25 twice a year and the cars never rust out when done like that.

i agree with previous post dont use roof tar you will hate your self for it later. It will make repairs and any upgrades a real nigtmare cuz you will have to get it all cleaned off and tar doesnt come easy.

HAHAHAHA dude get some bed liner or "real" undercoating not the cheap rubberized undercoating..if you have acces to a paint gun take the needle almost out adjust the fan spray to max and spend a day prepping, keep it washed reasonably and youll never have rust problems...if you do it right once youll have peace of mind and no rust. i did mine (even thouhg i live in south) and i can spray it off with hose and my underbody looks new.

ah correct me if I'm wrong but i thought tar is flammable, not only that but a real mess, and on hot days it would melt and drip and get flung all over the bottom of the truck. being cheap isn't always the answer
