Default roof rack mounting?? (long winded sorry)

i hope i am not beating a dead horse but i could not find anything on this topic.

I have a 1989 pioneer and my plan was to mount my roofrack with the 6 guttermounts I got from jcr but after trying the mounts with my chrome molding on the gutter rails I found that they were too flimsy so I took off the chrome thinking that was my issue. I was wrong it seems that my gutter rails are not like the others I have seen, making the jcr mounts not usable.

Now you are thinking like me. Well if that didn’t work then why not mount it to the stock rack. The issue is the previous owner took the rail off and filled the remaining holes with silicone. I went to the local p&p and grabbed a factory rack thinking I could just plop it on, wrong again.

So now we actually get to the question. How do I mount the darn thing!?!?!?!

Drill your own holes in the roof an mount it that way but make sure you plate both sides an seal it. It will be plenty strong

The 85, 89 and 94 in the driveway all have the same gutter. A pinch seam with a 1/16th in lip. Whats different about yours?

I will have to take a picture of them later today and post it up. There is not very much of a lip so The jcr mounts don't tighten down enough.

I know what you mean about your gutters on your 89.... Mine were the same way on my old 89 too. The chrome guttering is flimsy and comes off easily.
Once on a tight trail got it caught on some brush and it popped off. I couldn't believe how easy it was to get off. Plus the brush wasn't anything special to begin with too.
Yours a Pioneer by chance?

Sounds like someone really played around with your roof.

Is the silicone hard? Could you not drill and retap the old holes?

Yes it is a pioneer and I only have one chrome gutter cover now because the same thing happened to me.

The silicone isn't hard but the whole that are already drilled in the roof are made for those factory well nuts so they are about 1/2" holes. I ran out of light yesterday to take pix. Hopefully I can get some up today so you can see what I mean.

Remove silicone or re-drill new holes. Add the rails back and then buy my mounts for $25 lol mounts to stock cross bars which I also have 3 sets of
