thought about a roof rack but was thinking about fabbing something up to hold the wheel and fix it to the factory rails and still retaining my factory roof bars futher forward

i just threw my spare up on the factory rails and ratchet strapped the ***** down...ive had no issues with it offroading or on street. stays on through some gnarly trails and going 75 mph+ on the highway.

no difference really. maybe robs me of 1 or 2 mpg on the highway but thats hard to say cause i drive like a bat outta hell and xj's are boxes on wheels already so...that and im still breaking in a new engine. i would say its very minimal if at all and only at high speeds.

i actually get 15-17 highway (in 5th-1700-200rpm) 13-15 highway (in 4th 2000-2600 rpms) and about 10-14 city my engine has really efficient spark, alot of air intake, and a quick way to expel the gasses..... I match (gps) miles to gallons filled and do the math. i dont think my roof rack had to much effect tho...
i drive like a mad man too. the ricers dont understand that i am faster than them.... hahahaha. its always fun to watch them get beat by my beast and they are in awe and ashamed that i beat them

ya no ****...but my engine hasnt even turned 1000 miles yet so i doubt if the rings and valves have seated yet so im probably gettin blow by in the cylinders...havent really looked at it...i should be gettin damn good mileage though...i got a performance dist. ignition kit, K&N, bored TB, neon injectors, banks header, 99' intake and full 2.5" exhaust. i started a thread about it but everyone keeps tellin me to wait until my engine breaks in so...

The rack also has attachments for hi-lift and shovel.
Only time I have the tire up there is to go offroading (otherwise it lives in the cargo area), so, I have no clue as to how it effects mpg.
