Default Roof leaking

Hey guys,
I noticed today (and this is the first time it has ever happened). It's raining here in Wisconsin and when I got into my Cherokee I noticed that the headliner was wet and it was actually dripping water. I tried to look from the outside and see if there was any holes, cracks, etc but I'm not seeing anything. Has anyone had this problem before?? Also my felt on my headliner is droopy is there a quick fix for this besides taking out the entire headliner and having to re-felt it that anyone has tried???

Do you have a sunroof/moonroof ?If not you might wanna look up how to take off the luggage rack its probably got a rust hole you can't see under it.

Honestly it takes about 15 minutes to get the headliner out. I would do that and go from there.

If you can "properly" remove a headliner from an XJ in 15 min. I know of dozens of shops that will stand in line to hire you. If every screw came out as if it were new even then not close, as you have to remove the backing board not just the felt and it is the most important piece. Without it being in good shape you have nothing to work with to install a new one.

OP what is the general area of the leak the roof is large on a XJ? If it's up front usually it is the windshield molding area at the top with small rust holes in the metal, very common and an easy fix for a body shop to repair and blend new paint.

My headliner was sagging when I bought mine had it repaired at a shop for $110 including all labor and materials (factory headliner material). I took it into the shop in the morning 8am them picked up at 5pm.

I didn't have any screw issues when I took mine out to replace a saggging headliner. Everyone is different. I thought it was the easiest thing I had ever done.

Probably to take out clean put a new headliner maybe was two hours of time. I'll consider working at shops as a second option. Think I'll keep my job at the nuclear power plant though.

I was merely trying to say that it's really not that hard to take it out and see what the issue is. If it's not apparent by looking at the roof.

I have had my headliner in and out a couple times in my '00 not to mention raiding a couple jeeps for the headliners and overhead consoles. If I went for it full blast I am thinking I could get it out in about 30 minutes. As far as the leak goes mine was windshield related. A removal and reinstall solved the problem up front. Now to just figure out where the leak in the cargo area is coming from.
