Ring and Pinion 911
1 Attachment(s)
Ok. I just put in my carrier with my new ring and pinion 4:10 gears. How much slack is ok between the ring and between the pinion? Right now it's right at half the distance. Here's a pic:
See the grease pushed just halfway into the ring by the pinion. Attachment 199636 This is for racing only so it don't have to be perfect. I just don't want it to break. Lol. |
I think you need some contact paste.
|
What's that
|
Ok. I see what your saying. But I wasn't asking for what to use to measure it. I said its right at half way. My question is what's the correct measurement? Is half way ok or should it go farther in?
|
I don't know too much, but I know you need to know how much and where it's contacting. Not just how far in it pushes the grease in.
Most of the gear installs I've seen reference a picture of a proper contact patch. Usually from the manufacturer. |

There's A LOT more to it than that. Backlash, contact pattern, bearing preload. If it's for racing it needs to be perfect or it's going to break. You need to start with gear set-up paint. Grease isn't going to cut it. Read this. http://www.billavista.com/tech/Artic...r_Setup_Bible/ |
