On my way to work this evening driving my XJ diesel, the revs suddenly dropped to 1200 RPM with a total loss of throttle control.

After a brief inspection i am now aware that the vehicle has no throttle cable and as such must have some sort of electronic throttle control.

I was able to reset the problem by turning of the vehicle and restarting it. However i suspect that this is the beginning of a repeat issue.

Any advice on causes or solutions would be gratefully received.
