Default Replacing Trans

I have a 88 cherokee and I have to replace the trans. I got the old one down but I can't seem to get the new one lined up. Is there any hints or tips you guy can give me. Thanks.

Try to get a bolt started loosely on one side and then work on lining up the other side

I can't even get it onto one of the Dow pins. Would it still be ok to start a bolt to kind of suck it on to the motor?

Pull the converter and make sure it fits into the bore in the crank.

if it's a automatic yea thats fine but tighten them in a sequence to keep the pressure even. But if its a stick you gotta get it to go straight on or you'll crush your pilot bearing. I did my tranny on my back a month ago and I feel your pain.

Thanks for the fast responds! I have been messing with this thing for a week now. It has been a nightmare!! I will try and see if I can get the bolts started and suck it on there. One other question the converter seems to be lose while it is in the trans. Is there any way to be sure that the converter is all the way in?

Sounds like the converter's not all the way in to the pump. While holding pressure against the converter, try to spin it and it should go into the pump drive.

When it's all the way in you won't be able to get your fingers behind it.

using bolts to draw in a trans is a bad idea. ive seen blocks crack and bellhousings crack. if it wont go in with the wiggle/push method. than the input shaft isnt splined into the TQ.
