Replacing Rear Cat on 2000 xj sport
My 2000 XJ needs a new rear cat. I want direct fit, but am trying to figure out if I need a 49 or 50 state legal cat. Car built in 3/00 and conforms to US EPA NLEV regs, MY2000 new light truck LEV. And Cali LEV. It is also OBDII cert.
Since this vehicle has 3 cats (2front,1rear), does my rear cat need to be 49-state or California legal?
Thanks

That's a good question! For 2000 all of the multi-cat systems were inherently "California" spec. Likewise I found cataytic converter part number 52101116AB for California emissions in the 2000 XJ parts guide. Federal emissions is a different part number. Curiously I've also found a part number for a resonator in place of the big cat
If you're shopping for aftermarket units, get a cat that does NOT have the O2 sensor bung.
I'd say they're different, officially. I have no idea if a Federal one will let you pass an E-test though.
