Replacing instrument cluster bulbs
Hi all --
I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport that seems to have outlasted its instrument cluster lights. First a bulb in the middle (between the tach and speedo) went out; a week later and another one behind the speedometer is gone. As long as we're at it, the light behind the temperature dial on the HVAC panel has been out for years. And the 4WD indicator light.
I live in Alaska and it's winter ... so it's dark and those gauges come in handy sometimes!
How hard is it to get behind the panel and replace the bulbs? Where can I find replacement bulbs other than a dealer?
I know how to replace the starter, water pump, etc. but these interior gizmos drive me insane. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I have been wondering the same thing.....I need to replace a bulb or two....I pulled the radio apart today to get one of the little bulbs out to see if I can find some of those too....
I just recently pulled my dash apart to do the same thing. Most of the light bulbs (correct me someone if i'm wrong) are pretty universal. I had one out behind my clock, and a few out on the thing to the left of the gauges. Just go to an auto store and they should be able to match them up. The hardest part I think is just getting the main trim part out. Its quite a tight fit pulling it out I was afraid I was going to break it. I think the whole thing can be done with just a phillips screwdriver. Just make sure you put everything back on the way it came off.
Make sure your dash dimmer isn't turned down. I thought all my lights were out for a while, then I realized I was being a newb.

i realize this is a dead thread but whatever, i decided to swap the stock lights in my xj out with blue bulbs. I already did the ones for the shifter and the 4x4 engage. i need to do the ones behind the instrument panel, i need to know how to get the panel out and figure out what bulbs will fit... maybe 194's?

Well here it is, sorry for the crap quality cracked iphone photos arent great but they do get the idea across. The lights are alot brighter in person and looks real nice with my red leds on my stereo and the red toggles on my dash.

Something like 78cents a bulb not to bad at all seeing how i ordered 16 and have a solid 6 spares left over (think it was 6 for the dash 2 for the shifters) and i lost two or something. To make this even more worth it it took me 45 minutes tops, unscrew the dash bezel unscrew the gauge cluster, carefully remove the wiring harness, twist and pull the bulb holders and replace bulbs then do it all in reverse. All in all an hour of time and maybe 20 bucks tops.
